Edison Police Officer Saves Infant's Life
The six-day-old baby girl was rescued by a fast-acting Edison police officer.

EDISON, NJ-- A six-day-old baby's life was saved after a police officer performed CPR in her home.
Officer Brian Freund responded to a call in North Edison of 6-day-old Jivya, who was not breathing. Upon arriving, he found the 39-year-old father, Babu Gundimada, performing CPR.
Jivya was turning blue when Officer Freund took over, performing CPR and gentle chest compressions. Jivya began coughing and crying, signaling air was getting into her lungs.

“Saving this newborn’s life is an absolute credit to Officer Feund,” said Chief Thomas Bryan. “It also demonstrates that every dollar we invest in officer-training and the emphasis we place on preparedness and professionalism is time and money well spent.”
Officer Freund is a sixteen year veteran of the force.

Jivya was taken to to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for further treatment.
