Evacuation at St. John Vianney School in Woodbridge

Smoke was reported at the church, prompting an evacuation of the school.

Colonia, NJ - Students at St. John Vianney School in Colonia were evacuated Thursday afternoon, Woodbridge police confirmed to Patch.

Smoke was reported in the vestibule of the St. John Vianney Roman Catholic church connected to the school, said Captain Roy Hoppock of the Woodbridge police. As of 3 p.m., children were being allowed back into the school to retrieve their belongings, but then will be dismissed.

There is no fire, but crews are still trying to determine the source of the smoke, Hoppock said. They think it may have been from the A/C or heating unit.
