Fake News: Identifying Fact from Fiction

Learn how to become a savvy media consumer

Dina Meky, Reference and Instruction Librarian Berkeley College, Woodbridge Campus, will present “Fake News: Identifying Fact from Fiction” at the Woodbridge Main Library on Thursday, September 14 at 7:00 PM.

Fake news is deliberate disinformation, hoaxes or propaganda published in print, online and on social media outlets that appears to be legitimate news. It can also be presented in YouTube videos, podcasts, GIFs, memes or other images. Fake news is not a new phenomenon but with the advent of social media and easy sharing this new era of misinformation has exploded.

Meky, recently awarded the Berkekey College President's Award, will discuss ways to become a more savvy media consumer. She’ll discuss tips and strategies to improve media literacy and quickly decipher fact from fiction.
