Get a free glucose and cholesterol screening Friday, October 26 @ 11AM at the Henry Inman Library

Nurse Jacqueline Boadu of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey will perform FREE glucose and cholesterol screenings at the Henry Inman Library from 11:00 - 12:00 PM on Friday, October 26, 2018.

Knowing your blood glucose and cholesterol levels and how you can help manage them is important in preventing diabetes and keeping your heart and blood vessels healthy.

Cholesterol screening – This screening will provide you with a number, which refers to the type of fat in your blood, produced by the liver. Cholesterol is a fatty substance that your body needs in order to function. It helps form the cells that make up your body. Cholesterol is made in the liver and is also found in some foods. Too much cholesterol can be harmful to your body and can increase your risk for heart and artery disease.

Blood Glucose screening – This screening will provide you with the amount of sugar in your blood. High blood glucose occurs when there is not enough insulin (hormone controlling the sugar) in your body or when the body cannot use it correctly. High blood glucose could mean you have pre-diabetes or diabetes. Some of the health complications that can come with diabetes include heart disease, eye complications, and kidney disease.

*It is recommended that you fast before having the screening performed*
