Man Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver In Woodbridge

The Woodbridge man was killed on Rt. 1 near Value City Furniture, just past the turn off for Rt. 35. He has been identified.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — A man walking along Rt. 1 was hit and killed by a hit-and-run driver early Monday morning, Aug. 13 in Woodbridge Township. It happened between 1:30 and 1:45 a.m. Monday, and the Middlesex County prosecutor's office is now involved in a statewide manhunt to find the driver.

The man has been identified as John Kukuch Jr., 31. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was hit on Rt. 1 near Value City Furniture, just past the turnoff for Rt. 35. He was hit in the right lane in the southbound side. The driver was traveling south on Rt. 1, at approximately 1:23 a.m., struck Kukuch near Clover Leaf Cemetery, and then fled the scene.

Woodbridge police initially said he was crossing Rt. 1, but a more thorough investigation revealed he was walking alongside the road when he was hit, his family said.

Investigators believe the vehicle sustained damage to the front-end passenger side.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is asked to call officer Stephen Botti at 732-634-7700, extension 6516, or Officer Angelo at (732) 634-7711 or Detective Heck at (732) 745-8842 at the Middlesex County Prosecutor's office. Woodbridge police are checking with nearby businesses, such as Blue Ale House and the medical marijuana dispensary located on the north side of Rt. 1, to see if they have cameras that caught anything.

Earlier this summer, a driver hit and killed a flock of baby geese trying to cross Rt. 1 in South Brunswick Twp., NJ. That driver also did not stop and fled the scene. Watch the extremely sad, disturbing video below:
