Man Knocked Out Robbery Victim On Middlesex County Street, Authorities Say

According to a news release from Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Acting Perth Amboy Police Chief Larry Cattano:

Lashawn Jones, 41, of the Bronx was charged with aggravated assault and robbery Friday.

Around 2 a.m. Friday, Jones approached the victim on Madison Avenue in Perth Amboy. He punched the man in the head, and when the victim fell down, Jones stole his cell phone and cash, then fled.

A passerby discovered the unconscious man on the sidewalk at 4:30 a.m. and alerted police.

Several hours later, Jones was arrested.

The victim was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He is being treated for head injuries, but his condition was not available. His name was not released Monday.

Jones was sent to the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick, with bail set at $150,000.
