A North Plainfield man pleaded guilty to charges of drunk driving and causing a crash that killed his passenger in Woodbridge last year, authorities said.
Carlos Aguirre, 24, pleaded guilty today to counts of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence. Aguirre said he was intoxicated when he crashed his 2002 Volkswagen Passat into the back of a tractor-trailer on Oct. 19, 2014, killing his passenger, Edward Galvez, 25, of North Plainfield, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
An investigation into the fatal accident determined Aguirre was driving his car southbound on the New Jersey Turnpike and crashed into the tractor-trailer as both were exiting toward the Thomas A.Edison service area shortly after 4 a.m., the prosecutor’s office said.
