Middlesex County Breaks Ground On Affordable Housing For Senior Citizens
The former hospital is being turned into affordable housing for Middlesex seniors

EDISON, NJ-- Middlesex County officials were on hand to break ground for a new affordable housing complex specifically for senior citizens on Thursday.
The one and two bedroom apartments will be reserved for the county's residents aged 62 and older, and will be located in what used to be Roosevelt Hospital. The building is located on 11 acres in between Menlo Park Mall and Roosevelt Park, and across the street from a Target and an Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza.
“I am so very proud that we are able to support our veterans,” said Middlesex County Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios. “And that all the residents of this restored, historic building will be able to enjoy the most modern of amenities, easy access to premier shopping and restaurants, as well as a beautiful view of Roosevelt Park.”

Originally built under the New Deal during the Great Depression, Roosevelt Hospital served patients between 1937 and the mid-2000s. It had recently fallen into disrepair, with local teenagers sneaking onto the property for thrills.
All apartments will have Energy Star appliances, carpeted bedrooms, tiled bathrooms, cable/internet hookups, and air conditioning. Building amenities include an on-site management office, community room, fitness room, common laundry rooms, a resident site superintendent, security cameras and card/FOB entry systems, an outdoor patio and resident gardening area.
