Muslim Group Holds Vigil Wednesday in Edison for Orlando Attack

More than 500 people, including elected officials, are expected to attend. Homeland security officials were also invited.

Edison, NJ - Muslim groups will hold a candlelit vigil Wednesday night in Edison for the victims of the Orlando shooting, and more than 500 people, including elected officials, are expected to attend.

The vigil, organized by the American Muslim Council and American Muslims for Democracy, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Royal Albert's Palace, 1050 King Georges Post Road.

State Sen.  Linda Greenstein (D-Middlesex), state Sen. Samuel Thompson (R-Old Bridge) and state Sen. Raymond Lesniak (D-Union) are all scheduled to attend the vigil, Patch has learned, as is Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker and Edison Mayor Thomas Lankey.

A staffer for U.S. Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (D) will also be there. Homeland security officials were also invited.

Because the shooting happened during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, it will be followed by a special Ramadan dinner. The dinner had been pre-planned before the shooting happened. The candlelit vigil is open to all.
