New Indian Restaurant to Open at Old Cajun Queen

Lawrenceville's Shahi Palace, an Indian-Pakistani restaurant, is opening a second branch in Woodbridge.

Last month, the long-shuttered on Amboy Avenue went on the auction block with the hope the new buyer would be able to breathe some life into the facility.

It looks like someone found the cash to be inspired. The Shahi Palace, a Lawerenceville restaurant, catering, and banquet hall, will be opening a second branch in at the Cajun Queen site.

A large banner announcing that fact has been hung outside the Cajun Queen in the last week.

According to their website, the Shahi Palace specializes in Indian and Pakistani cuisine, and to that end, they have an extensive menu catering to vegetarians and meat eaters alike.

The vegetarian cuisine features such items as Baingan Bhartha, eggplant simmered with tomatoes and onions with a hint of garlic, and Mirchi Ka Saalan, hot peppers cooked in a sesame-based sauce with garlic, onion, and other special spices.

Meat eaters aren't neglected. The restaurant says that all its meat is Halal to meet dietary guidelines.

And we aren't talking just about beef and chicken. Shahi Palace is going to offer some unique dishes for the culinary adventurer.

If you've never tried goat before, this is your chance. The restaurant has an extensive goat and lamb selection, such as Goat Korma, which is cubes of goat cooked with tomato sauce in spices, and garnished with ginger slices and coriander.

There is no mention yet when the new restaurant will be opening.
