WOODBRIDGE, NJ — A major new warehouse is coming to Avenel.

The warehouse will be built at 1289 Rahway Avenue in Avenel, the former 56-acre Woodbridge Developmental Center site.

The warehouse will be owned by The Morris Companies. The Township says construction will begin immediately on a new "state-of-the-art warehouse facility located at the former 56-acre Woodbridge Developmental Center site in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township."

The Morris-Avenel property is a 91-acre site to the north of Avenel Street, located on the west side of Rahway Avenue in what was the former State Developmental Center site and the former Premiere Diecast warehouse property.

The Morris Companies redevelopment plan was approved to construct a warehouse along with a 20,000 square foot office space and 20,000 square foot office mezzanine. There will be a 300-car parking lot, a 502-trailer parking lot and 100 loading docks, in addition to landscape fencing and buffers to enhance the site.

“This redevelopment project has transformed the long-closed New Jersey State Developmental Center in Woodbridge into a productive commercially successful facility that will benefit the Township tax base for years to come,” said Mayor John E. McCormac. “It is important to note that this development would not have been possible without the commitment of The Morris Companies, the Woodbridge Redevelopment Agency and the Department of Planning.”

Tenants that will use the warehouse have not been announced.
