A police-involved fatal shooting shut down an area near a New Jersey highway on Thursday afternoon.

Authorities are investigating a trooper-involved shooting that shut down the Molly Pitcher Service Area off the New Jersey Turnpike, police said.

The Attorney General’s Shooting Response Team is conducting an investigation into an incident at the service area in which a man was fatally shot by a state trooper.

According to the preliminary investigation, members of the New Jersey State Police were conducting an investigation at the rest area in Cranberry when the subject was shot by the state trooper at approximately 2:45 p.m., according to the Office of the Attorney General.

The subject was inside a pickup truck when he was shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No troopers were injured.

The identity of the deceased man is not being released by investigators at this time. No further details of the shooting are being released tonight because of the ongoing investigation.
