Edison, NJ - The Orlando, Florida shooter who killed 50 people and injured 53 more in the worst mass shooting in U.S. history was once married to a woman who lived in Edison, NJ.com reports.
Omar Mateen married Sitora Yusufiy in Florida in 2009. She lived in Edison and Lawrenceville before moving to Port St. Lucie, Florida to live with Mateen, in a condo owned by his family. He beat her, she said, adding that her parents “literally saved my life” when they helped her leave him.
"He was not a stable person. He beat me. He would just come home and start beating me up because the laundry wasn’t finished or something like that," she told the Washington Post.

On Sunday afternoon, the FBI raided a two-story home on Winthrop Road in Edison Township where she once lived, reports NJ.com. An FBI spokesman would not tell the media what, if anything, they found inside.
Yusifuy studied at Montclair State University and worked as a home health aide during the time she lived in New Jersey. She now lives in Colorado and works as the creative marketing director at Rainforest Awareness Worldwide, her LinkedIn page shows.
It is not thought that Mateen ever lived with his wife in Edison, or Lawrenceville.
The two met online. She said she never saw him again after they divorced.
She moved to the U.S. from Uzbekistan when she was 11.
She also said she suspected he was bipolar, but it was never formally diagnosed. She has made comments in the media that the shooting is not so much about Mateen's Islamic faith, but more to do with his undiagnosed mental illness. That's her current fiance, Marcio Dias, by her side.
On Sunday she posted this prayer on her Facebook page:
Great Spirit I offer my deepest prayer and condolences to the victims of the Orlando shooting... May they transition in peace may their souls be healed, may the wounded victims recover and heal in peace, may the families and loved ones heal and find their peace....
