Person Exposed to Rabid Raccoon in North Brunswick, County Says
The 2016 rabid animal count in Middlesex County has now climbed to 17 as of Tuesday afternoon.

Middlesex County, NJ - The rabid animal count in Middlesex County has now climbed to 17 as of Tuesday afternoon, the county health dept. announced. One person has also been exposed to this latest affected animal — a raccoon found in a North Brunswick backyard — and is consulting with their physician.
The raccoon was found in backyard of a North Brunswick home last Thursday, Aug. 11, in the vicinity of Liberty Bell Court and Society Hill Way. The North Brunswick Animal Control officer was dispatched to the scene and secured the animal, which later died in Animal Control custody and was sent to a state lab for testing.
It was reported on Monday the animal tested positive for rabies. There was one known human exposure to the raccoon. The Middlesex County Office of Health Services recommended that the resident speak to their physician if they have additional questions about their exposure.

This raccoon becomes the 17th rabid animal reported in Middlesex County in 2016 and the fifth rabid animal reported in North Brunswick so far this year.
