The petition was started in early June by Jimmy Dabrowski and as of Friday, July 3, about 1,100 people have signed it.

Those against the blue line say it is a dig against the Black Lives Matter movement and ignores the plight of those who died due to police brutality.
"A blue lives matter flag was also unlawfully raised on the Woodbridge Avenue bridge overlooking the New Jersey Turnpike," read the petition. "Both issues were brought to the attention of Woodbridge elected officials, explaining how these controversial and divisive symbols send the message that Woodbridge is an anti-Black Lives Matter town. The blue lives matter flag was finally removed from the bridge only after township residents were told to instead contact the NJ Turnpike Authority, who promptly showed up and took the offensive flag down."

"The blue line painted down Main Street has yet to be acknowledged or addressed," they said.
Similar petitions were launched to remove the thin blue line in Holmdel and Middletown.
The town of Flemington removed its thin blue line, which ran down the center of Main Street, on June 6, the day before a Black Lives Matter rally was held in that town, according to the Holmdel petition. They said someone tried to paint a new blue line in its place, without the approval of the town.
