Police: Woodbridge Woman Taken Into Custody After Stand-off

Police say the woman had a gun and refused to leave the home when officers tried to serve her with an eviction notice.

Police made their way into a Woodbridge home, after spending some seven hours negotiating with a woman who refused to leave the home when officers tried to serve her with an eviction notice, authorities said.

The woman initially confronted police with what appeared to be a gun, then refused to leave the home, police said.

The woman, whose name was not released, was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for evaluation. Charges were not immediately filed.

Woodbridge police said Middlesex County Sheriff’s officers tried to serve the eviction notice Friday at the home in the Colonia section of town.

The woman confronted officers with what appeared to be a handgun, then refused to leave the home, police said.

Members of the Woodbridge Special Operations Team spent about seven hours negotiating with the woman, and then made entry into the home, police said.

They found her in an upstairs hallway, sitting in a chair, with a handgun at her side, police said.

Some officers suffered minor injuries. The woman was not injured, police said.
