Smith’s friend told police the young woman was swept away by the current around 2 a.m. Saturday, near the Victory Bridge, those published reports said.

The body was found around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, about 50 yards offshore, but strong currents initially prevent a dive team from reaching the body, the article on the WABC-TV website said.
