Rita's Stops Selling Custard Because Of Avian Flu
The frozen treat chain says it is temporarily replacing its custard with soft-serve ice cream due to a national egg shortage from avian flu.

The frozen treat chain says it is temporarily replacing its custard with soft-serve ice cream due to a national egg shortage from avian flu.
“We are not able to get our egg supplies anymore to supply our 600 stores,” Rita’s spokeswoman Ariel Vegotsky told PennLive.com.

She told the newspaper that some stores now have ice cream on their menus, but others are still phasing out their custard supplies.
“We are temporarily transitioning from Frozen Custard to a Premium Soft-Serve Ice Cream because of a nationwide egg shortage. We hope to have it back soon, but until then please ask your local store for a sample of our new product,” a Rita’s representative wrote on Facebook.
Rita’s is located at 755 St. Georges Avenue, Woodbridge, and 201-205 New Brunswick Avenue, in the Hopelawn section of town.
