Edison, NJ, June 6, 2014: Plays-in- the-Park
is pleased to present the Tony Award-winning
musical Sunset Boulevard as
the first production of its 2014 Season. Performances will run from June 18
through June 28, with no show on Sunday, June 22. All shows begin at 8:30 p.m.
and are staged at the Stephen J. Capestro Amphitheater at 1 Pine Drive in
Roosevelt Park, Edison, N.J.
Sunset Boulevard is a lush and sweeping tale of
Hollywood’s darker side. Based on Billy Wilder’s 1950 film noir classic of the
same name, the story follows struggling screenwriter, Joe Gillis. Romance
and tragedy ensue when he accidentally finds himself at the mansion of Norma
Desmond, a once-great star of the silent film era. As both chase success,
neither of them can manage to get everything they desire. “With One Look,” this
7-time Tony Award winning musical is sure to blow you away.
Julie Stiel of West Orange, N.J. will be featured in the
role of Norma Desmond. Also featured in the production is Billy Piscopo as Joe
Gillis, Scott Daniels as Max, Emma McGahan as Betty Schaefer, Bob Nutter as
C.B. DeMille, Kirk Geritano as Artie, Abe Vorensky as Sheldrake and
Jeffrey O’Neil as Manfred. The cast consists of 21 actors from all over New
Jersey and New York.
“This looks to be another stellar season for
Plays-in-the-Park,” said Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios. “I encourage
everyone to attend this production, not only to enjoy beautiful Roosevelt Park,
but also to see and hear the remarkable contributions of so many talented
actors, musicians, technicians and directors.”
“Plays-in-the-Park is a County institution,” said Freeholder
Charles E. Tomaro, Chairman of the County’s Infrastructure Management
Committee. “Residents have looked forward to them for over 50 years, and many
have grown up watching these shows. I wish the casts and the staff all
the best for this production and this new season.”
Tickets for Sunset Boulevard can only be
purchased on the night of the performance. The Box Office is open from 5:30
to 9 p.m. on the evenings of all performances. Tickets cost $7 for adults, $5
for seniors (60+), and are free for children ages 12 and under.
Patrons must provide their own seating, and the height of a
