WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Three residents of a longtime Woodbridge nursing home have now died of the coronavirus, New Jersey Health Commissioner Judy Persichilli announced Thursday.

The nursing home is St. Joseph's Senior Home, which was shut down by the state Wednesday after 24 of the 94 residents there tested positive for COVID-19. Five staff members at St. Joe's also tested positive, said Persichilli.

All the other remaining St. Joe's residents are being treated as if they have the virus.

On Wednesday of this week, St. Joseph's was closed and all the residents were transferred to a CareOne facility in Whippany. They were moved by Morris County OEM officials, who showed up to the Woodbridge facility dressed in full haz-mat suits.

“CareOne in Morris County saw their neighbors in Middlesex County were in trouble and didn’t hesitate to offer their help and support. We would do the same for them. It’s simply the right thing to do," said Senator Joe Vitale, Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin and Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez in a joint statement. They are all Democrats who represent this part of Middlesex County.
