Trump Calls Himself 'A Very Stable Genius'

President Donald Trump defended his intelligence and stability Saturday on Twitter in response to suggestions from the book "Fire & Fury" that top aides think he is mentally unfit for the White House. He then continued that line of thought during a press conference at Camp David.

"Everything I've done is 100 percent proper," he said at the brief press conference in a hangar at Camp David. "That is what I do, is I do things proper."

Trump is there with the vice president and Republican congressional leaders to discuss their legislative agenda for the year.

He defended his mental stability and talked about the good schools he had attended.

He added that there has been "no collusion, there's been no crime."

While the probe of Special Counsel Robert Mueller continues, it has gone beyond the simple question of whether there was collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Mueller has been looking at financial issues as well as the question of obstruction of justice.

Courts have ruled there does not have to be a crime for obstruction of justice to take place.

Earlier in the day, Trump launched a series of tweets addressing issues such as stability and the Russia investigation.

"Now that Russian collusion, after one year of intense study, has proven to be a total hoax on the American public, the Democrats and their lapdogs, the Fake News Mainstream Media, are taking out the old Ronald Reagan playbook and screaming mental stability and intelligence.....," said Trump in the first of a series of tweets Saturday morning.

"....Actually, throughout my life, my two greatest assets have been mental stability and being, like, really smart. Crooked Hillary Clinton also played these cards very hard and, as everyone knows, went down in flames. I went from VERY successful businessman, to top T.V. Star.....

....to President of the United States (on my first try). I think that would qualify as not smart, but genius....and a very stable genius at that!"

Trump sent out the tweets that day after Michael Wolff's much talked-about new book was released, “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House." Wolff is a former New York magazine columnist who covered the White House and said he interviewed top White House aides who feared Trump was unfit for the job. Former White House adviser Steve Bannon was a key source for the book. Trump fired Bannon last year.

Trump's lawyers sent Wolff and his publisher Henry Holt cease-and-desist letters, threatening them not to publish the book. In response, Henry Holt published the book Friday, Jan. 5 instead of its scheduled release date later this month.
