Woodbridge Begins Reconstruction Of Rt. 9 Off Ramp To Main Street
Gov. Murphy was in Woodbridge Friday to announce the start of major roadwork to reconstruct the Rt. 9 and Main Street intersection.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Gov. Phil Murphy was in Woodbridge Friday afternoon to announce the start of roadwork to reconstruct the Rt. 9 and Main Street off ramp/intersection.
This will be a major roadwork project to improve the Rt. 9/Main Street intersection; work began Friday. It will be funded through a $12 million County Aid Grant from the state's Transportation Trust Fund, so no local tax dollars are being used to pay for it.
“Once completed, this project will create a significantly improved Rt. 9 and Main Street intersection that will improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and motor vehicle accidents," said Woodbridge Mayor John McCormac on Friday.

McCormac also said the intersection currently is "congested," and said this project is the "most significant transportation improvement undertaken in Woodbridge Township in more than a decade."
Woodbridge residents often complain about the increasingly worse traffic, particularly to get down Main Street.

The intersection of Rt. 9/Main Street/CR 514 will be completely re-figured. The intersection will be widened, with traffic signal upgrades made, improved drainage and stormwater management, plus improving pedestrian access in that area.
Once completed, it will also be a vital access way to downtown Woodbridge, which is undergoing a building boom of new apartments, stores and a steakhouse coming to Main Street.
The governor even acknowledged Woodbridge's building boom and resulting traffic, saying Friday, "Today’s groundbreaking will pave the way for community revitalization and smart development in Woodbridge, with the roads to accompany the resulting growth.”
