Woodbridge just got $1 million from the federal govt. to build 2 street hockey courts, a basketball court and a spray park at Cypress Park.
WOODBRIDGE, NJ — This week, U.S. Senator from New Jersey Cory Booker announced in this press release all the projects in the state that will receive funding from the $1.5 trillion appropriations bill just passed by Congress.
And in it is one million dollars allocated to build a massive new recreational park in Woodbridge Township.
This will be phase 2 of the Cypress Recreation Center, explained Woodbridge Mayor John McCormac.

Phase 2, or "Cypress 2" as McCormac calls it, will be located on the other side of Port Reading Avenue on land already owned by the town just under a bridge. It now houses a soccer field. This new project will renovate that soccer field, build a new smaller field and also construct two street hockey courts, a basketball court and a spray park with parking.
The $1 million federal grant will pay for all of that.

"The project was designed and now bid specifications are being developed," said McCormac. "While we hope parts of it might open this year, it is more likely to open next year."
The Township completed Phase 1 of Cyrpress Recreation Area a few years ago, which included a turf level-playing field for softball, baseball and soccer. (It is primarily be used by Woodbridge's special-needs population, including the town's Buddy Ball program for students under 21 and adult day camp.)
The facility also includes two pickle ball courts, two volleyball courts, a track around the entire facility and a greenhouse for specific training for students in horticulture, which is just getting underway.
The building was donated to the town of Woodbridge by Hess, and the town turned it into a permanent home for cheerleading and wrestling, "which both typically drew the short straw when gym times are allocated," said McCormac.
There are also computer facilities on site.
