Results: A majority of Woodbridge voters approve the school district spending $32 million to make significant renovations to School 4/5.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — The results are in: A majority of Woodbridge voters approve the school district spending $32 million to make significant renovations to School 4 and 5/Avenel Elementary.
Woodbridge residents were asked to vote on the school construction project Tuesday, and at 9:34 p.m. Town Clerk John Mitch released the following unofficial results:
- A total of 2,236 "yes" votes: 476 votes cast on March 14, and 1,760 mail-in ballots cast
- A total of 573 "no" votes: 196 cast on March 14 and 377 mail-in ballots.
As we reported, Woodbridge residents were asked a simple "yes" or "no" question on whether or not they approve the Woodbridge school district making renovations to Avenel Elementary.

The renovations will cost the district approximately $32 million.
Woodbridge school superintendent Joe Massimino and Mayor John McCormac said multiple times no additional money will be requested from taxpayers. The district already took out an $87.7 million bond for this and other school projects.

"We already borrowed the money and will use the residual (from that bond) to pay for this," said Massimino at the March 6 Woodbridge BOE meeting.

The school district has not yet said when construction will begin on School 4/5, but the district did say these would be "major, significant" renovations and upgrades.
Voter turn-out Tuesday was meager, to say the least: Of the 68,122 registered voters in Woodbridge Twp., only four percent voted in this election. (Patch was originally provided the wrong total voter numbers by the clerk, and we apologize for this error.)
The vote results still have to be certified by Middlesex County.
