Woodbridge Main Library Getting A Rain Garden

The rain garden is being built next to the library's parking lot. It will absorb rain water runoff from the parking lot.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — This week, the town started construction on a rain garden for the Woodbridge library main branch. Once completed, this will be the eighth rain garden in Woodbridge Township.

It's a fast project: The rain garden should be completed by the middle of next week.

Rain gardens have that name because they are meant to help capture and treat storm water run-off. The Township will bury two bioswales into the earth next to the Main Library’s parking lot. The bioswales will capture and infiltrate 2,660 square feet of rain water run-off from the parking area.

Finally, the Township will be planting native flowers into the garden to help beautify the site and attract pollinating insects like butterflies.

Woodbridge's other rain gardens can be found at Kennedy Park School #24, Iselin Branch Library, Henry Inman Branch Library, Fords Branch Library, Woodbridge Township Municipal Building, Woodbridge Township Health Department and Fulton Street in Woodbridge.

The garden will be built in a partnership between Woodbridge Township’s Green Team and Rutgers' Water Resources Program. This will be the 50th rain garden planted by the Rutgers team.
