Woodbridge Man Wins $1 Million Lottery

Charles Covington, a truck driver who lives in Woodbridge, expected to win a few dollars. Not a million.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ - We told you Monday that a $1 million winning lottery ticket had been sold in Woodbridge Township — at the Raceway gas station on West Pond Road, to be exact — and now a winner has come forward to claim it.

Charles Covington, a truck driver who lives in Woodbridge, bought the ticket at the gas station earlier this month. He's a regular Powerball lottery player, and purchases advance tickets each month. The drawing was Saturday, and the ticket he purchased matched all five of the white balls drawn, but not the Powerball, winning the $1 million second-tier prize.

On Sunday, Covington scanned his ticket with the NJ Lottery app on his phone, to check if he won. The app returned a winning message, but did not reveal the prize amount. He went to the Raceway gas station expecting to claim a few dollars. But then the retailer checked the ticket and told Covington that he had actually just won $1 million.
