INFO: Woodbridge Police Department Traffic Enforcement Division will announce a stepped-up enforcement and education campaign targeting pedestrian safety. The NJTPA “Street Smart” campaign, a collaborative effort between public, private and non-profit organizations, urges motorists and pedestrians to “check vital signs” to improve safety at pedestrian crossings and on the road.

The WPD introduced the NJTPA “Street Smart” enforcement program in Nov., 2013, via a public awareness campaign and law enforcement initiatives targeting pedestrian safety. The continuing WPD enforcement campaign focuses on motorists who fail to obey New Jersey’s law requiring them to stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk, as well as pedestrians who jaywalk. The WPD also targeted speeding, illegal turns, and distracted and inattentive driving and walking, which contribute to pedestrian-motor vehicle crashes.
