The con artist then told the woman she could prevent her husband from going to the county jail if she wired a large sum of money to someone in the Dominican Republic, via Western Union.
The victim made two money transfers, because she said, the caller knew a lot about her and her family. She also feared her husband was in trouble because he wasn’t answering his cell phone.
Police say they will never instruct anyone to wire money to them via Western Union.
Anyone who receives this sort of call should immediately hang up, then call the police department named by the caller, police said.
Police are also residents to warn their family members and friends about this scam.
