Woodbridge Police To Participate In Prescription Drug Spring Cleaning Event
On Saturday, residents can spring-clean their medicine cabinets, then safely dispose of the unwanted medicine at the police station.

Woodbridge police will take part in the statewide, 2015 Prescription Drug Spring Cleaning Event.
On Saturday, residents can spring-clean their medicine cabinets, then stop by the police station to safely dispose of their unused, unwanted, and expired medicine. Unused medications in homes can be stolen, misused and abused, police said.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2011, some 22,134 Americans died from overdoses of prescription medications. The majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, according to that agency.

In a prepared statement, Woodbridge Police Director Robert Hubner said prescription drug abuse is the fastest growing drug problem in the region. Law enforcement-sponsored prescription drug and medicine take-back events help reduce the abuse of prescription drugs because medications that languish in home medicine cabinets can easily be diverted and misused, he said.
Police said a secure “Project Medicine Drop Box” is located in the lobby of police headquarters at the Woodbridge Municipal Building, 1 Main Street.
