Woodbridge Preps For Winter Storm: What's Closed Monday, Where Not To Park

The Woodbridge Board of Education will issue a decision Sunday regarding any Monday school closures. ​

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Woodbridge Twp. is preparing as the biggest winter storm of the season barrels towards New Jersey.

Woodbridge Twp. already closed numerous town buildings for Monday: The Woodbridge Public Libraries, Community Center, The Club and Senior and Youth Centers will be closed on Monday. The Board of Education will issue a decision Sunday regarding any Monday school closures.

The snow is expected to start at 1 a.m. Sunday and end early Monday morning. The heaviest snowfall will take place Sunday morning into Sunday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. There will also be ice, freezing rain and sleet, which will make driving extremely dangerous on Sunday. Ice accumulations will be around one tenth of an inch.

Woodbridge DPW crews will do a pre-treatment (brining) of primary streets and designated Snow Emergency Routes on Saturday. The town will begin salting and plowing operations as snow starts to accumulate, which is approximately 8:00 a.m. on Sunday.

The DPW will concentrate plowing on primary roads first, followed by secondary roads and then cul-de-sacs and dead ends. Woodbridge Township plow operations do not include state and county highways.

There will be no trash pickup on Monday to allow DPW trucks and employees to deal with snow removal. All trash and recycling pickups next week will be delayed a day as if Monday was a holiday.

On Friday afternoon, Woodbridge Twp. declared a Winter Storm Advisory, which will be in effect from Sunday, Jan 25 through Monday, Jan. 26. The storm is expected to last from 1 a.m. Sunday through 1 a.m. Monday.

The National Weather Service forecast is calling for a 12+ inch accumulation of snow in Woodbridge, with the heaviest accumulation predicted from 8:00 a.m. Sunday through noon Monday.

In Woodbridge, cars must be removed from streets designated as Snow Emergency Routes in order to keep the streets open for plowing and snow removal. The cars have to be off those streets from 24-36 hours after the end of the storm. Woodbridge residents are encouraged to park vehicles in driveways and off streets wherever possible
