WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Update, Sept. 7, 2020: Woodbridge has since changed this and decided to do a separate event for COVID-19 victims.

"9/11 stands as an annual ceremony and we did not want to lessen the importance of either event," said Woodbridge town spokesman John Hagerty.

This year, Woodbridge will also be reading the names of those who died due to the coronavirus at its annual September 11 Remembrance Ceremony.

The coronavirus is still out there, but spreading at a much slower rate than it was this spring: Woodbridge is still averaging 3 ½ COVID cases a day for July and August. In the first five weeks of tracking cases, they've had had as many cases as in the last 15 weeks.

"That’s a very good sign that the curve has been flattened in Woodbridge and it is right in line with the State of New Jersey and County of Middlesex," said Woodbridge Mayor John McCormac.

Woodbridge Twp. has not had more than five cases in a single day since July 14. Two addresses this past weekend (Aug. 8/9) had multiple cases with both a parent and child impacted and both children were 10 years old at the two addresses. The average age of the 14 new cases was 38.
