Woodbridge Youth Basketball Coach Charged With Sex Assault

Corey Pinto​ is a coach for US Hoops, also known as Hoops America​, a youth basketball program with locations throughout Middlesex County.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — A youth basketball coach who lives in Woodbridge was arrested Wednesday on multiple charges relating to the sexual assault of a minor who was known to him, acting Middlesex County Prosecutor Christie Bevacqua and Woodbridge police director Robert Hubner announced.

The man arrested, Corey J. Pinto, is a coach for US Hoops, also known as Hoops America, a youth basketball program that teaches throughout Middlesex County. They coach children from first grade through high school.

Prosecutors say that on multiple occasions throughout 2019, Pinto, 29, of Woodbridge supplied the minor with marijuana and alcohol and engaged in sexual activity with the victim, who was known to him.

Pinto was a basketball coach at U.S. Hoops or Hoops America, a private training club based out of Red Bank. US Hoops coaches children at the following locations: Timothy Christian School in Piscataway, All Season Sports Academy in South Plainfield, the Metuchen Sportsplex and at Perth Amboy High School.

The Middlesex County prosecutor's office did not respond when asked if the victim was a participant in US Hoops.

Pinto was charged with twelve criminal counts including aggravated sexual assault in the first degree, two counts of sexual assault in the second degree, aggravated criminal sexual contact in the third degree, two counts of criminal sexual contact in the fourth degree, endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree and five second-degree counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Pinto is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center pending a Detention Hearing.

The investigation was conducted by members of the Woodbridge Police Department, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, and the U.S. Marshals’ New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.
