Yet Another Raccoon With Rabies in Middlesex County

This is the 21st rabid animal reported in Middlesex County so far this year.

South River, NJ - The day after a raccoon and bat tested positive for rabies in New Brunswick and Plainsboro, the Middlesex County Health Dept. announced Friday that an additional raccoon has tested positive for rabies, as well.

The raccoon was found Tuesday in South River.

The Animal Control Officer for South River responded to a call concerning a raccoon that was found to be acting strangely in the vicinity of Wilcox Ave and Garwood Street in South River. The raccoon was sent to the New Jersey State Department of Health Laboratory for testing. It was reported on Friday that the animal tested positive.

There are no known human or animal exposures to the raccoon. This is the 21st rabid animal reported in Middlesex County in 2016.
