108-Year-Old Bergen County Woman Recovers From Coronavirus

According to reports, Sylvia Goldsholl, 108, may be New Jersey's, and perhaps the country's, oldest coronavirus survivor.

ALLENDALE, NJ — Gov. Phil Murphy took to Twitter on May 14 to celebrate Sylvia Goldscholl, a Bergen County woman who just may be the oldest New Jersey resident to recover from COVID-19.

"A tremendous life, a tremendous spirit, and a tremendous show of strength. So to you, Sylvia, we send you all our best for many more years to come," he wrote.

According to News 12 New Jersey, Goldsholl, 108, who lives at The Allendale Community For Senior Living, could be the oldest person in the state, and even the country, to recover from the coronavirus.

Northjersey.com reports that Goldsholl is a few months older than a 108-year-old New Mexico man who survived the coronavirus. The oldest person to recover worldwide may be Maria Branyas of Spain, 113, who was diagnosed with COVID-19 sometime in March, according to the BBC.

In an interview with News 12, Goldsholl, who was seven during the 1918 flu pandemic, told the station she was alive today because she "was determined to survive."
