9 Former Mayors Endorse Wyckoff Candidates

Wyckoff Township Committee Race

Tuesday November 6th will be a pivotal election for Wyckoff. It is important to be knowledgeable about the candidates running for Wyckoff Township Committee, their track record and their positions on the issues facing our township.

As former Mayors, we know what it takes to deliver on the quality of life our residents enjoy and the decisions required to preserve Wyckoff for future generations. Wyckoff is one of the few towns left in New Jersey that is not beholden to any political party and their expectations when they assume the majority. We have been independent in our decisions and how we manage our township for over 92 years. This formula has provided us with the following:

  • One of the lowest municipal tax rates in Bergen County and still one of the lowest in the state
  • The lowest debt of any town in New Jersey as demonstrated by our high bond rating and overall debt numbers
  • Consistently one of the most desired places to live in the state of NJ as per rankings from NJ Monthly and by the number of families with children who move to our town and grown children that return to raise their families here
  • The ability to utilize local residents for our professional services
  • A warm, vibrant and inviting community that is alive with activity for residents of all ages
  • Preservation of our small town atmosphere and charm

These are just some of the many reasons Wyckoff is a great place to live. As a voter you should know, it is your township officials who have direct impact on these positives and must stand up to threats that can negatively affect the quality of life in Wyckoff, and the cost of operating Municipal Government.

This is why we are supporting Tom Madigan and Tim Shanley for Township Committee. They have demonstrated that they will prepare Wyckoff for a future that is worthy of our past. They have also shown they will stand up against threats to our quality of life. They are running a positive campaign based on their record of achievement, and, by keeping them in office we know we have officials that are making decisions based on what is best for the township, not the political party bosses. Here are just some of the achievements of the Madigan and Shanley team in 2018:

  • Provided significant funds for increased paving of township streets
  • Holding Ridgewood Water accountable to the court judgement against them to reimburse Wyckoff residents for overcharging
  • Passed an ordinance banning the retail sale of marijuana in the township
  • Passed a resolution opposing Governor Murphy's proposal to create a sanctuary state and sanctuary towns in NJ
  • Kept the municipal budget increases to less than 1% and working closely with the township departments to do more with less
  • Holding Orange and Rockland Electric to deliver better storm service to Wyckoff in partnership with state legislators
  • Forced the U.S. Post Office to return to service the drive-thru mailbox

They have shown commitment to deliver on matters important to you. They have served Wyckoff not only through their public service but through their charity service with Tom serving in the Wyckoff Parks and Recreation Foundation, Rotary Club, St.Martin's Soup Kitchen (St.Elizabeth's) and Tim with the Wyckoff Education Foundation, Wyckoff Recreation coaching and Knights of Columbus. Their commitment to serving others is simply unmatched and we are fortunate to have candidates of the caliber running for public office.

You have an important choice to make and message to send with your vote this November. We encourage you reelect hard working officials that have delivered for all residents of the town and kept their campaign promises. It is important that we elect officials that understand the importance of placing the needs of residents first because this has been the secret formula of success for our town. Tom Madigan and Tim Shanley place the needs of Wyckoff above party and personal self-serving goals. Isn't that exactly the type of members we want representing us on the Township Committee? As former Mayors we know when township officials govern like Tom and Tim have done, our future is in good hands. We are convinced that Tom and Tim have the proven qualities and abilities to have earned re-election to continue to serve our town and keep it the great place we know.

As a unified group, we urge you to vote for both Tom Madigan AND Tim Shanley on November 6th.

Thank you,

Former Mayors of Wyckoff:

Rudy Boonstra

Chris DePhillips Kevin Rooney

Rick Alnor Dave Connolly

Nancy Drabik Joe Fiorenzo

Gordon Stanley Doug Dial
