Wyckoff Wins New Jersey Clean Communities Council Award

The township won the "Rise to the Challenge" award for their town-wide cleanup day amid the coronavirus pandemic, NJCCC officials announced.

WYCKOFF, NJ — Almost all elements of life have been altered due to the coronavirus pandemic, but that didn't stop some important initiatives in Wyckoff, like the Team Up To Tidy Up day.

For that, the New Jersey Clean Communities Council has rewarded the township with a "Rise to the Challenge" award, for continuing the event even amid the pandemic.

The Oct. 3 clean-up saw a record number of volunteers in 2020, and the event's organizers went above and beyond to ensure COVID-19 safety measures like proper social distancing.

According to NJCCC officials, a total of 285 volunteers collected more than 100 bags of trash and recyclables.

"With the increase in litter from masks, wipes and gloves, the township decided that it was more vital than ever this year to continue our annual tradition of cleaning our community while obeying all guidelines to create our COVID-19 Compliant TUTU Day," said Denise Capparelli, Wyckoff Administrative Support Assistant/Special Projects Coordinator.

For efforts like these, the NJCCC created the award, and it takes on a special meaning when received in the face of such adversity.

"The NJCCC applauds the Township of Wyckoff and its volunteers for orchestrating its largest clean up amidst the pandemic," said NJCCC Executive Director Sandy Huber.
