RAMSEY, NJ — Police and firefighters in Ramsey headed to Route 17 early on Tuesday morning to pull an overturned car out of a creek, officials said.

After heavy rains covered the road overnight, the car went off the highway before 5:19 a.m., the Ramsey Fire Department posted on social media.

"Upon arrival the vehicle was found off of the roadway in a creek and the driver had been removed from the vehicle," firefighters posted. "A large wrecker was required to remove the vehicle and the road way was cleared after about 90 minutes."

The driver had managed to get out of the overturned car, officials said.

"Units responding were notified that the vehicle went over the guard rail and was in the stream," said Ramsey Rescue. "Officials confirmed party had self extricated and there was no entrapment."

Police in Ramsey told Patch on Wednesday that the driver was taken to Hackensack Medical Center for treatment.

No one else was injured in the incident, police said.
