WYCKOFF AND FRANKLIN LAKES, NJ — Residents of Franklin Lakes voted Tuesday on whether to allow a "deer cull" or hunt in the town, in order to reduce the wildlife population.

Meanwhile, Wyckoff voters were considering whether to continue a tax of one penny for every $100 of property owned, which goes to open space projects. The Open Space Trust Fund tax will otherwise expire at the end of the year.

Mail-in votes are likely to be counted all week. But preliminary totals were released starting Tuesday night.

Late Wednesday Updates

The public question in Franklin Lakes said, "Should the Borough consider conducting a deer cull by bow and arrow annually for three years for the purpose of managing the deer population?"

As of Wednesday at 4 p.m., the race was close, with 2,005 voting yes, in favor of the cull, and 1,833 voting no.

Wyckoff's results were much more lopsided. The "yes" votes had it, with 4,606 in favor. There were 659 "no" votes as of Wednesday.

The town had made it clear that the fund supports various parks and fields.

Patch will update these totals when numbers are updated.
