Bergen County Gets Federal Funds To Combat Drug Trafficking

The county is one of several that will share $254 million approved by the U.S. House of Representatives recently.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — The county will share part of more than $250 million the U.S. House of Representatives approved recently to fight drug trafficking.

The $254 million will provide financial assistance to federal, state and local law enforcement agencies in areas determined to be "critical drug-trafficking regions of the country, including Bergen and Passaic counties in New Jersey, according to a press release released by a member of Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen's (NJ-11th) staff recently.

These High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas include 18 percent of all counties in the country and cover 66 percent of the population.

The funds were appropriated as a result of the House's Financial Services Appropriations Subcommittee passing the 2018 Financial Services and General Government Appropriations bill recently.
