Bergen County Man Charged In Sex Assault Of Pre-Teen He Was 'Supervising': Prosecutors

A Bergen County man was charged with the sex assault of a child over whom he had a "supervisory role," prosecutors said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A 42-year-old Lodi man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly sexually assaulting a child under 13 while he had a "supervisory role" over the child, prosecutors said.

Jose F. Villanueva was charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault by sexual contact, and endangering the welfare of a child, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said.

On Wednesday, June 12, 2024, the Division of Child Protection and Permanency contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding an alleged sexual assault of a juvenile.

An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Lodi Police Department determined that Villanueva "sexually assaulted a child, under the age of 13, in Lodi, NJ and in Passaic, NJ, while Villanueva had a supervisory role over the child," prosecutors said.

On Wednesday, he was arrested in Paramus and taken to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
