Wyckoff Cyclist Dies After Crash With SUV: Police

A 48-year-old Wyckoff man on a bicycle has died after a crash with an SUV on a quiet road a week ago Sunday.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A 48-year-old Wyckoff man passed away after a collision with an SUV on a residential road in Franklin Lakes a week ago, police confirmed.

Area residents said there have been too many near-misses on the road.

The Franklin Lakes police said that on Sunday, Aug. 6, a 2020 Acura RDX collided with a bicyclist in the area of Briarwoods Road and Bayberry Lane.

The 35 -year-old female operator of the Acura, a Franklin Lakes resident, was not injured in the crash.

The man had sustained serious injuries, police said, and first responders administered CPR and first aid on the scene. The man was transported to St. Joseph's University Medical Center in Paterson, where he passed away.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed, police said.

The Wyckoff Police Department, Franklin Lakes Ambulance Corps, the Valley Hospital Paramedics, Bergen County Sheriff's Department, and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office also responded.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said the Franklin Lakes police are handling the investigation.

On Facebook, neighbors said they were concerned about traffic safety in the area.

"I live a few houses away from the accident," said one resident. "I call it Bayberry Speedway. Speeding is out of control."
