Biz Brief: Culinary Royalty Cooking Soon at V'ra

French-Thai fare expected to open later this month

Chef Veera Premon has cooked for royalty from around the world and at one of the Tristate-area's most storied restaurants, soon he'll be working his culinary magic at V'ra on Franklin Avenue.

The executive chef from Montclair's  will be tweaking his time tested Thai-French hybrid for a new upscale dining location across from the Boulder Run shopping center at the site of the defunct Flatz Co., which closed in November 2011.

We caught up with manager Tommy Surawech Monday morning in Wyckoff.

"We're hoping to open later in March," said Surawech, who manages both Thai Chef and the soon-to-come V'ra. "The food is more Thai in Montclair, but this will be more French Bistro."

Surawech had nothing but accolades for Premon, the former head chef at Tavern on the Green who he said has cooked for Queen Elizabeth of England and Thailand's Queen Sirikit.
