Franklin Lakes man sees Deniro in 3D at Tribeca Film Festival
It was a busy 10 days for Franklin Lakes resident, Tom Murro, as he hit up a slew of swank parties at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival and lived to tell about it.
Last week,Celebrity Magnet Tom Murro, while attending many screening afterparties, scored an impossible spot at The 2011 Tribeca Film Festival Vanity Fair party, hosted by the events co-founder Robert DeNiro.
"It is basically a party full of friendly billionaires" said Murro. He was supposed to show up for his meet-and-greet that night with P. Diddy at the W in Hoboken N.J.; however, after blowing Diddy off for a 2nd time, once before for Orlando Bloom, he found himself walking up the New York State Supreme Court House's stairs while chatting with Chazz Palminteri into the hottest party of the year.
"The elite of the elite were there," said Murro. It seems the more famous the person, the more plentiful the security, and the less the press is allowed. There were a ton of police officers, some with their German shepherds on every walkway and around every coner to keep the press and photographers at bay. "As I walked up those stairs with Chazz, I immediately knew this was the party of all parties to be in."
Hors d'oeuvres were served with people in white gloves, and there was a top-shelf, open bar. "It wasn't so much a party, as it was a high-powered mixer," said Murro. He chatted with many famous people, which included: Martha Stewart, Rupert Murdock, John McEnroe,Ron Howard,Brian Grazer, Jerry Sienfeld, Dianne Von Furstonberg, Michael Douglas, and many more.
He first chatted and posed for a few photos with actor Ed Burns there to promote his new film 'Newlyweds', who Murro described as a "very nice guy."
Next, the 27 time Grammy award winner and Chicago native, Quincy Jones, offered Murro a seat next to him on a small cushioned outdoor couch. "We talked about his travels to Asia for business, as he just got off the plane from Thailand," said Murro. "We talked about his ultra-expensive wristwatch that caught my eye, a Audemars Piguet Millenary that they made and named after him." Jones even visited the facility where they are made, and has three from this designer. He must really enjoy the feel of a fine timepiece around his wrist.

When Murro goes to a party, there are usually only one or two celebrities in the room; but this time there were tons of them. So, he knew when talking to Jones, he would need to make his rounds to the other rich and famous individuals. "I was disappointed I had to cut my conversation with Mr.Jones short, because he was as gracious as they come, if he was the only guy in the room, you'd never want to leave him," said Murro.
Then, Murro met NYC's police commissioner Raymond Kelly. He met him while outside on the steps of the US Supreme Courthouse. Murro asked him how business was doing, Kelly responded with, ''It's running like a fine tuned machine''. He then jokingly asked me if he could stand on the next step up from me for our photo just to even things out a bit," said Murro. "I told him he would be part of my celebrity coverage; his friends teased him about qualifying as a celeb- he definitely qualifies in my book."
"Are you talking to me?" this next celebrity would have said to Murro. Robert DeNiro was next on the meet and greet list. He scored a rare picture with the legend. "This was the Holy Grail of photos for the week," said Murro. "I basically did the talking, and he responded with laughter and facial expressions. He can have an entire conversation with you without talking''.

The night could have ended there, and Murro would have been more than satisfied. But, he left the celebrity-packed event to attend Will Ferrell's after-party for Everything Must Go. Nothing is better than ending the night with a laugh or two with a SNL Star.
On Friday, Murro arrived around midnight for the after-party for “A Good Old Fashioned Orgy,” hosted by Stolichnaya Vodka. This event at the Liberty Hall of the Ace Hotel was the loudest and most crowded after-party of the week. Murro hung with “Saturday Night Live’s” Will Forte, Jason Sudeikis, and Hawaii Five-0’s Michelle Borth. Sudeikis and Borth, along with the rest of the casts, mingled with the crowd. “Sudeikis seems to really have a way with the ladies as they circled around him by the bar'' while ''The very friendly Will Forte, who previously admitted to me that he wasn't really into parties, spent most of his time chatting with a buddy in the corner,” said Murro.
How does a week like this end? With a Tribeca Film Festival Wrap party at Eye Beam of course. The event was sponsored by Heineken. “It was a nice party honoring the producers, writers, and the rest of the people who make Tribeca happen,” Murro said. After getting 30 hours of sleep in 10 days talking to celebrities, a non-'celebrity' party with my wife was a nice way to end the rollercoaster ride of stardom
Over the 10 day event, Murro truly hit the trifecta, or should we say, Tribeca of parties.
