Checks Stolen From Franklin Lakes Church Cashed In For $5,300, Police Say

The checks were stolen from the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, police said.

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. — Several checks were stolen from the Most Blessed Sacrament Church and cashed for more than $5,000, police said.

Valley National Bank's security department reported to authorities Monday shortly before 11 a.m. that several checks had been stolen from the church, said Capt. John Bakelaar.

The checks were cashed in "by unknown persons," the captain said, for approximately $5,300.

Bakelaar said he did not have an exact timeframe of when the checks were stolen or cashed.

Detective Robert Grassi investigated the theft.

The Most Blessed Sacrament Church was founded by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark in 1961.
