Christian Health Care Center Offers Undergraduate Internship Program...Deadline to Apply is April 3

The CHCC Undergraduate Summer Internship Program provides students with a chance to explore career interests

Christian Health Care Center (CHCC) is committed to developing the next generation of professionals who want to make a difference in the lives of others by choosing a career in health care. The CHCC Undergraduate Summer Internship Program provides students with a chance to explore career interests through targeted work assignments, mentoring, job shadowing, and a lecture series. Application, essay, and all required documents are available at ChristianHealthCare.org and should be submitted no later than Monday, April 3, to dkish@chccnj.org.

This program provides students with the opportunity to complete a six-week unpaid, non-clinical internship in various departments throughout the CHCC campus. Starting with a comprehensive general orientation to CHCC, interns will learn about the organization, its mission, and commitment to excellence. The internship will provide invaluable opportunities to be involved in meaningful work projects, attend educational sessions, and participate in networking with other interns, clinicians, and senior leaders. Interns will be required to provide up to 20 hours of service per week. Schedules are flexible with the exception of Monday, which will include scheduled group educational sessions.

“My internship at the Christian Health Care Center was a great experience,” said previous intern Allison Zierold, who is currently employed in the health-care field. “It provided me with the opportunity to explore positions related to my major, get related work experience, and determine the direction I wanted to pursue in the future.”

“For the fifth year, we are offering these internships for students to introduce the rewarding career in health care and to educate them with projects that are innovative and essential to understanding the business of health care,” said Denise Kish, LNHA, Service Excellence/Professional Development Specialist. “The internships will consist of working alongside seasoned professionals, conducting research projects, and attending valuable training essential for workplace skills not necessarily taught in a college classroom.”

Thirteen students participated in CHCC’s first internship program, 18 students participated in the second internship program, 17 students participated in the third internship program, and 15 students participated in the fourth internship program.

The program is open to students currently enrolled full-time in a four-year undergraduate program. Students must have completed at least two years of college and have taken general classes in the area of internship; have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better; have a career interest in the health-care industry; complete and submit the application and letter of interest (available online at ChristianHealthCare.org by clicking on the Career Opportunities link); provide proof of a two-step Mantoux by their physician by Friday, June 2; commit to the program (June 19 to July 31), with an exception of July 3 and 4; attend General Orientation Monday, June 19 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays to attend mentorship and education series (with the exception of July 3 and 4).

Internships are offered in projects in Person- and Family-centered Care; Food and Nutrition Services; Health Information Management; Therapeutic patient activities, including music therapy and art therapy; Rehabilitation Therapy (physical, occupational, and speech therapy); Marketing and the Foundation; Social work; Nursing administration; and Mental-health care administration, (full continuum of care – not a counseling internship); Long-term care and assisted-living administrator rotation and project. Interns assigned to clinical areas will not be performing clinical duties; rather, they will be shadowing, providing support, conducting research, and working on projects with clinical leaders. Application, essay, and all required paperwork should be submitted not later than April 3, 2017, to dkish@chccnj.org. Telephone interviews will take place through Monday, May 15. Final candidates may be asked to participate in an additional interview. All candidates will be notified via email no later than mid-May.

Each unpaid internship will provide students with a transportation stipend once they have completed no less than 90 percent of the committed hours of the six-week program, exclusive of the pre-approved one-week vacation.

CHCC provides a broad continuum of high-quality, compassionate care, offering superior senior-life, short-term rehab, and mental-health services. As a non-profit organization, we deliver Person- and Family-centered care to our community based upon the Christian principles on which we were founded more than a century ago.
