Cops: Los Angeles Dodgers Coach Burglarized by Ex-Employee

An ex-employee of a former Los Angeles Dodgers player was arrested Tuesday on charges related to the alleged theft of $25,000, according to township police.

Wyckoff Police had been conducting an investigation with the owner of Garett Teel Sports on Braen Avenue when they say they discovered that the ex-employee was responsible for the theft of money.

The former employee, Edward Sarro, had been entering the building when it was closed using a pass code for locked doors, according to police.

Wyckoff Patrolman William Plisich established surveillance of the building during overnight hours, and on Tuesday, Jan. 22, the second night of the surveillance, he observed the 25-year-old Hawthorne resident Sarro enter the building at 2:36 a.m., according to Wyckoff Police.

Sarro was arrested by Plisich and Sgt. Jack McEwan and charged with burglary and theft while leaving the building in possession of $370 in marked bills that had been left inside of the business office.

The owner's complaint alleges that Sarro committed multiple burglaries of the business over a period of approximately one year, and that approximately $25,000 was stolen, according to Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox.

Bail was set by Wyckoff Judge Russel B. Teschon at $25,000 and Sarro was released after posting 10 percent of the bail.

Garett Teel, a Los Angeles Dodgers coach, is a Ridgefield native with a storied New Jersey baseball career. 

Teel was "one of the most talented catchers to come out of North Jersey," according to a recent story on northjersey.com "He was The Record’s All-Decade catcher of the 1980s while at Ridgefield Park, and was a Division III All-American at William Paterson before being selected by the Dodgers in the 12th round of the 1989 amateur draft."

Teel lives in Upper Saddle River with his sons Kyle and Aidan, according to northjersey.com.
