Observant Wyckoff Cop Catches Drunk Driver Tailgating School Bus: Police

Edward J. Rao, 53, was charged with reckless driving and DWI, police said.

WYCKOFF, NJ — A local man was charged with driving while intoxicated after he failed to yield to school bus Thursday, police said.

Officer Kyle Ferreira was watching traffic near Sicomac and Cedar Hill avenues at 5:18 p.m. when he saw a vehicle fail to yield to an approaching school bus, Lt. Joseph Soto said in a news release. Ferreira stopped the vehicle and investigated.

Edward J. Rao, 53, of Hawthorne, was charged with DWI, consumption of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, following too closely, improper use of horn, failure to observe a stop sign and no front license plate, Soto said.

Rao was released to a family member and is scheduled to appear in Wyckoff Municipal Court, Soto said.
