Early-Morning Wyckoff Fire Destroys Garage

Two-story garage was "engulfed in flames," authorities said.

WYCKOFF, NJ - A fire destroyed a two-story garage on Highview Drive early Saturday morning, police said.

A neighbor called 911 shortly after 5:30 a.m. to report that there was a fire on Highview Drive, Sgt. Kevin Kasak said in an e-mail.

A two-story detached garage was ”engulfed in flames,” Kasak said.

Firefighters placed the fire under control at 6:14 a.m. and the garage was completely destroyed, Kasak said.

Homeowners Frederick and Nancy Schumacher, who were home when the fire occurred, were not injured, Kasak said, and no firefighters were injured.

Besides Wyckoff’s, fire departments from Ho-Ho-Kus, Oakland, Midland Park, Waldwick, Ramsey, Franklin Lakes, and Hawthorne responded and helped extinguish the fire, the sergeant said. Two Wyckoff ambulances were also dispatched to the scene.
