The Franklin Lakes Police Department, in conjunction with the Franklin Lakes Municipal Alliance and the Franklin Lakes Girl Scout Cadette Troop #239, will be conducting a DEA-sponsored prescription medication take-back program on Saturday, April 30, from 10 am to 2 pm, at the Franklin Lakes Police Department headquarters, located on DeKorte Drive.
This prescription drug collection event is part of an annual program which allows individuals to rid their homes of unused, unwanted, or expired medications, by turning them in to law enforcement officials, who will then ensure that the drugs are disposed of in a safe manner. This process lessens the possibility that such medications will fall into the hands of juveniles, or be sold illicitly. Additionally, it prevents the drugs from ending up in the ecosystem if they were to be discarded into the trash or flushed down a toilet.
The collection of the medications will be handled expeditiously and anonymously, with no identification required. The drugs may be submitted in their container (with any identifying information removed), or loosely deposited into the collection box. Liquid products, such as cough medicine, should remain in their original container with the cap tightly sealed.

Please note that syringes will not be accepted at the collection site.
