Harold Schechter, Ph.D., a professor of literature at Queens College in New York City, is the author of four novels whose protagonist and crime-stopper is Edgar Allan Poe himself. Schechter knows the psychology of crime well, as he has published historically precise accounts of 12 of the most notorious murderers in U.S. history.
