Harold Schechter, Ph.D., a professor of literature at Queens College in New York City, is the author of four novels whose protagonist and crime-stopper is Edgar Allan Poe himself. Schechter knows the psychology of crime well, as he has published historically precise accounts of 12 of the most notorious murderers in U.S. history. In this personal and compelling talk, he explains why Poe has been so influential on writers of both fiction and nonfiction, and how he lifted Poe out of his rational mind into the pages of his imaginative fiction.
